From Zumba to Yoga and Everything in Between: Health Week

Each year, the Santa Maria Health & Physical Education Department runs Health Week to provide information and resources on leading a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

During Health Week, this week there have been many activities and events encouraging students and staff to take a break from their busy lifestyles. Staff had the opportunity to have skin cancer checks and massages, Years 5 & 6 students reached new heights during rock climbing sessions, students and staff danced to Zumba in the sunshine on the Figure 8 and de-stressed with yoga in the mornings before school.

On Wednesday, Year 10 classes hosted the Health Week Expo with stalls providing loads of information and facts about different topics surrounding our health; such as how to be sun-smart, natural skin care, alternative therapies and mental health. With delicious smoothie samples containing crickets, protein balls, kombucha and trail mixes, there was a lot to take away from the stalls that ran throughout the day.

Health week also promotes healthy eating, with plates of fruit shared around at recess and lunch, which is always popular with the students. Overall, Health Week is a great chance to remind students and staff about how important it is to take care of themselves, to have a healthy mindset and a balanced lifestyle.
