Mackenzie Goss: Being A Farm Girl

My whole life I have grown up on my family’s sheep and cropping farm in the small country town of Darkan. Home is about 200km south-east of Perth with only a two and a half-hour drive home from Santa Maria.

I believe I am so lucky to have been given the opportunity to grow up on a farm. It has provided me with so many important life skills and attributes that have shaped me into who I am today.

Leaving home and living away from your parents at such a young age is difficult at times but many characteristics are gained such as independence, resilience and perseverance. I believe that I have developed these from being raised in a farming lifestyle and this has assisted my Boarding experience and hopefully my future careers and just life in general. 

With always something to do, growing up was never boring! My sisters, cousins and I would be out helping on the farm in any way we could. Mustering and helping with sheep work, riding motorbikes and go-carts around, lots of pet lambs and dogs and lots of family bonfires are a few memories from my childhood. Living on a farm is just a lot more fun!
