Dowerin Field Day is a great community event where people from all over Western Australia come together as a farming community. This week myself, Leanne McTavish, Head of Boarding, Jacqui Daniels OGO Coordinator and two boarding students, Ebony Flavel and Tara Ralph, attended the Field Day as a way of connecting with our current and future rural families.

The girls said, “The Field Days are an agriculture expo showcasing all things such as farming, food and education. As we are both boarders from Dowerin, it was a privilege to show off our wonderful school to our local community members. The Field Days are a very important event in not only our community but many other rural communities across Western Australia. It was a great privilege to go and we enjoyed being a part of it.”

The girls were wonderful ambassadors of the College and took me on a tour of the Field Day and introduced me to many local families. The Field Days enable farming communities to connect with each other, to share their love of the country life and to see some of the latest agricultural innovations.

The Dowerin Field Days is an agricultural expo located in the Central Wheatbelt of Western Australia. The small Wheatbelt community swells from a population of a few hundred to over 25,000 with visitors travelling from all over the state to be part of this community event. Many volunteers give service to the community on these days and all income generated is injected back into local towns, contributing to the success and survival of the region. The event is symbolic of the way rural communities support each other.
