LifeLink was established in 1999 to promote an understanding of the Church’s response to people in need within the community. It instils Catholic students attending Archdiocesan schools with a sense of responsibility for caring for those less fortunate.
Eight Year 9 students from our Just Leadership group attended LifeLink Day on Thursday through an online forum. The participating students learned about the work of the LifeLink social service agencies, which help many thousands of Western Australians in need each year.
During the LifeLink Day event Archbishop Costello said, “I am delighted to say that through your support of LifeLink Day, Catholic schools have helped raise a total of $2 million for people in need throughout Western Australia.”
Santa Maria College has supported the Archbishop’s Shopfront, one of the LifeLink agencies, for many years with cash donations, goods and home-cooked meals. We will continue to do this through our College Winter Appeal this year.
Here is what some of the girls had to say:
What I have taken away from the forum is how we can include fundraising for LifeLink agencies into days already planned, like Mercy Day. Alice Simmonds
After attending the LifeLink launch yesterday, I learned that Jesus should be an example of how we care and serve others. Olivia Dowling
I learned there are many ways we can raise awareness about the need to support the LifeLink agencies; just raising awareness by telling your friends and peers about it can be helpful. Ruby Morris
Yesterday I learned how serious the situation is and how vital it is for us to encourage our peers to donate to the Winter Appeal. Amelia Taranto
The Just Leadership girls will meet further to discuss ways the College can further support Shopfront. They encourage everyone to be large-hearted and bring in the requested items for the Winter Appeal. Shopfront is one of the agencies that will benefit from this generosity.
