Meet Our Sports Captain, Georgia

Introducing our 2021 Sports Captain, Georgia Anderson.

What is your portfolio position?

Sports Captain

Why did you apply for that position?

Whist being at Santa Maria College the sporting community has always been extremely welcoming and inclusive. It has never backed down and strives to win or achieve their best. I believe this shall be continually reinforced and the spirit should never be lost. I applied for this position as I would like to make a positive contribution to the Santa Maria sporting community and celebrate everyone’s individual talents.

What do you hope to achieve in your position?

I want to make a positive change in the sporting community at the College by striving to promote the opportunities offered by the Health & Physical Education Department and IGSSA. I would also like to implement a cheer squad, spice up the staff versus student sporting events at the College, and fundraise for girls who do not have the opportunity to play sport.

As the COVID-19 pandemic impacted us this year, taking away our IGSSA events and our cross country carnival, it truly showed how much we take these events for granted. I would love to take the opportunity to create an encouraging, positive, and fun atmosphere making up for the events we lost due to COVID.

What’s your favourite thing about Santa Maria?

As a student at Santa Maria College, I am so blessed to experience being involved with staff and girls from all different backgrounds. My favourite thing about the College is the activity days the SLC offer every year, which gives students an opportunity to give back to surrounding communities or the wider community, whether that be a community in a third world country or ladies experiencing breast cancer in WA. It brings us perspective and truly makes us appreciate how blessed we are.

What’s one piece of advice for new students starting at Santa Maria next year?

Get involved! By coming to Santa Maria College, you have been truly blessed and immediately welcomed into a compassionate and caring environment that accepts all talents, interests, and personalities. Embrace the sporting, service, and academic activities before and after school, you will make memories, friends, and experiences that will bless you for a lifetime. Do not be afraid to reach out to your peers and staff around the College. We are always willing to lend a helping hand or maybe just a conversation!
