Meet Our Staff: Jodie Brindley, College Nurse
How long have you worked at Santa Maria?
I have worked at Santa Maria for 10 years.
What is your role at the College and what does that entail?
My role is College nurse and involves providing first aid and medical assistance to day girls and our lovely boarding community, including making and attending medical appointments, taking girls for blood tests, eye tests and various other medical appointments.
How did you get into nursing?
In school, my aim was to be a doctor but my grades weren’t good enough and I probably didn’t commit myself fully to school. So I did the next best thing and entered nursing. I’ve always loved babies so once I finished my Registered Nursing course I began midwifery and worked for 17 years as a midwife which was a wonderfully rewarding job.
What’s the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is the interaction with the many and varied girls at the College providing care and comfort when they are not feeling well. Also working in a great school with fantastic staff runs a close second.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
In my spare time, I like to catch up with friends and go out for a meal. Spend time with my family, hanging out at home playing pool with my husband. I love to read and walk daily for exercise. I also like to potter around op shops and would like to one day work as a volunteer in an op shop or driving the elderly to appointments/shopping etc.
What A Term! So Many Opportunities – Jennifer Oaten
As I look back on the past nine weeks, I am so grateful for who we are as a community and what we have achieved. Through the dedication of our staff and the enthusiasm of our students, we have established new connections, immersed ourselves in opportunities and worked through challenges.
