Santa Maria to Participate in Vyner Brooke Commemoration Service Again in 2018

Sister Vivian Bullwinkel (1915–2000), badly wounded, feigned her death and was the sole-survivor.  You can read more about the sinking of the Vyner Brooke here.

In 2017, Santa Maria College was approached by the Applecross RSL and former Iona College Principal, Margaret Herley, to become involved in a commemoration service honouring those who lost their lives. We have humbly accepted their invitation again in 2018.

Some of our students will deliver a speech, host VIPs, lay a wreath and will be helping out as ushers and with catering. The College’s Grounds & Maintenance Team will also assist logistically with equipment support, setting up and packing down after the event.

The ceremony is open to the community and College families are invited to attend. This year’s Service is on 11 February at Point Walter Reserve, at the Vyner Brooke Memorial and will commence at 10.30 am. Guests are to be seated by 10.15 am.
