Teegan Baldwin (Garner, 2010)

What has been your journey since leaving Santa Maria College?

Since graduating from SMC in 2010, I returned to my wheat belt hometown and enjoyed a gap year. I worked at the local National Australia Bank, enjoyed riding my horses (with regular riding and competing in equestrian competitions), seeing my family (during summer breaks going skiing together) and catching up with friends. A major highlight during that year was meeting my husband, Jack, and we have been together since.

After my gap year I moved back to the city the following year to start my undergraduate degree in Occupational Therapy (OT) at Curtin University. I really enjoyed the learning and practicality of OT and completed Honours in my final years. My thesis was on Autism and eye movements in Driving.

During my final year of OT I sat the Graduate Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT) and applied to Medicine. I was fortunate to be offered my first preference and started a Doctor of Medicine degree at Notre Dame University, Fremantle in 2016. I completed my third year of Medicine through the rural clinical school and was based in a Wheatbelt hospital for the year. I really loved being back in the country again and plan to guide my medical career back to the wheat belt.

I graduated Medicine in 2019 and have started working in SJOG Midland since then.

What has been a highlight along the way?

Highlights have been regular holidays, summer breaks skiing with my family, regular riding, and competing in equestrian competitions, owning my two lovely dogs (we’ve had Teisto since 2012 and Lexi since 2014. Lexi was my 21st present from Jack, getting married, and going on our honeymoon.

What is one of your fondest memories from your time at Santa Maria College?

I was a boarding student at Santa Maria College and one of my fondest memories is from my early years in Ursula boarding house. It was a quiet weekend and we took all the pillows from the lounge room, beds and couches around the Boarding House to build a massive cubby along the hallway!
