Year 12s Are Getting Linkedin

LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional networking platform. It has 11 million members in Australia alone. As such, it is a useful tool for our Year 12 girls as they leave school and enter a world of future possibilities.

This week, Jo Saunders from Wildfire Social Marketing spoke to the graduating class about how they could use Linkedin to learn about potential careers, build professional networks and create a profile that will showcase their value.

Jo provided the girls with a blueprint of how to create a profile that would be appealing visually, show their value and provide them with a voice in their chosen industry. They had the opportunity to get hands-on and start creating a profile, keeping in mind how they want to be perceived in the world of work. She was very clear about that line between the personal and the professional sides of their lives.

Jo says, “LinkedIn offers a massive opportunity to reach beyond your connections to make an impact with your ideal audience.” For our girls that means connecting with people within the industries that interest them and beginning to build a personal brand. When talking about brand, Jo used a quote from the founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos. “Your brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room.”

One of the benefits of Linkedin is the ability to stay connected with your school network. We hope all of the girls register as Santa Maria alumni so that we can maintain that bond and follow the impact they have on the world.
