Year 9 Marine Science

In recent weeks the Year 9 Marine Science elective class has been working hard during lessons learning about biodiversity and preparing presentations, which they were able to share with the Year 5 students this week. The Year 9s faced the task of developing an eight-minute presentation that focused on their young target audience.

Year 9 student Niamh Smithies reflected on her experience saying, “The highlight was interacting with the Year 5s and enjoying the experience of teaching them. I liked seeing them engaging in the activities that we have prepared. It was really rewarding to be able to answer questions and know the topics well enough to teach without notes.”

Imogene Dzodz and Daniella Andreone added, “We learnt valuable leadership skills, teamwork and organisation. It built our confidence, and we had fun learning and presenting our topic to the younger girls. We had to step outside our comfort zones and be confident when talking to the girls.”

The Year 5 girls enjoyed their lessons saying, “Can we do this more often?” and “They taught me about lots of marine animals that I didn’t really know about before.”

Overall, the lessons were a success with both Years enjoying the collaboration
